Update on Born of Darkness

Hello everyone,
I started my writing journey in 2016 when Born of Darkness was merely an idea floating around in my head. I still can't believe I ran with it and chose to self-publish. Born of Darkness released on December 13th, 2018! It's hard to believe it's been this long, and over the last five years I've been behind the scenes writing and figuring myself out. Between health problems, work, and finding my author's voice, I've been a busy hot mess.
One thing I know for sure is that Born of Darkness wasn't great. I know it wasn't anywhere near what you all deserved to read. There are a lot of issues with it. I had planned to write the 2nd book. Possibly a 3rd. But then I really started to dislike my story. My characters. Everything about this book. Months ago when I decided I would no longer do anything with the Watchers series, I stopped printing of BOD. Well, today, I removed BOD from Kindle Unlimited. The last day to read Born of Darkness on KU is August 12, 2024. For now, it will remain available on Kindle for purchase, but I may completely unpublish it.
I've thought about rewriting BOD and giving everyone what this should have been, but I honestly can't promise anything. As I said in a previous post, my heart isn't in it anymore. I don't know what the future holds, so I won't say 'never', but I don't think it would be likely.
My decision to pull BOD from KU is because of the upcoming release of The Gravity of Us and LOAD. Due to the exclusivity rules with KU, BOD is putting my KDP account at risk because it is on pirate sites. To avoid losing my KDP account for future releases to Kindle, I've opted to end BOD's enrollment in KU. I've gone wide so that access to my ebooks can be from numerous platforms like Kobo and Smashwords as well as Kindle and iBook, which wouldn't be an option if I enrolled in KU for upcoming titles.
To the readers of Born of Darkness, thank you. I appreciate you buying a copy or reading in KU. I hope you read The Gravity of Us. Maybe you'll see my growth and like it enough to stick around for the many more novels coming in the future.
Always,
Jamie Avery King
